Dr Neil Alexander

Dr Neil Alexander has been appointed executive director of the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation (formerly the Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation). Alexander has considerable experience in the design and manufacturing of equipment used in radioisotope production, nuclear power plants and the handling of spent nuclear fuel. He comes to the Fedoruk Centre from Rolls-Royce Nuclear Canada where he served as president and GM. Previously he was president of the Organization of CANDU Industries and VP business development with SNC Lavalin Nuclear. Alexander holds a PhD in metallurgy from the Univ of Birmingham. He replaces Dr John Root, director of the Chalk River ON-based Canadian Neutron Beam Centre and interim executive director of the centre since its creation in late 2011. The Fedoruk Centre (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Univ of Saskatchewan) was established in 2011 with a $30-million, seven-year provincial grant (R$, June 19/12).
