Dr Mamdouh Shoukri

Dr Mamdouh Shoukri has been appointed president and vice-chancellor of York Univ, effective July 1/07. Shoukri comes to York from McMaster Univ, where he has served as VP research and international affairs for the past six years. He joined McMaster in 1984 and held the positions of dean of engineering and chair of the mechanical engineering department. Prior to joining McMaster in 1984, Shoukri held several positions in the research division of Ontario Hydro. While at McMaster, he led efforts to align thrust areas of the university's research with industry and government. His research focuses on thermo-fluid sciences, particularly multi-phase heat transfer and nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics. He holds a BSc in mechanical engineering from Cairo Univ, and an MEng, and PhD in mechanical engineering from McMaster. Shoukri is a member of the Ontario Research and Innovation Council and is a board member with the Ontario Centres of Excellence and two of its Centres….
