Dr Josef Hormes has been appointed executive director of the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron, replacing Dr Bill Thomlinson who retires at the end of June. Hormes will also become a professor in the department of physics and engineering at the Univ of Saskatchewan. He comes to the CLS from the Univ of Bonn where he is a professor of physics. Prior to that, he was director of the Centre for Advanced Microstructures and Devices, a synchrotron at Louisiana State Univ from 1999 to 2005. Before coming to the US, Hormes was director of the Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory at the Univ of Bonn where he was also responsible for technology transfer and industrial relations….
