Dr Eric Meslin has been appointed president and CEO of the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA), effective February 1/16. Meslin is founding director of Indiana Univ's Center for Bioethics and associate dean for bioethics in its School of Medicine. His CCA appointment marks his return to Canada where he was born and received his initial post-secondary training. Meslin received a BA from York Univ and an MA and PhD from Georgetown Univ. Prior to moving to Indiana, he was director of bioethics research for the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) program at the US National Human Genome Research Institute, and executive director of the US National Bioethics Advisory Commission. Meslin has also held positions at the Univ of Toronto, Oxford Univ and Univ of Western Australia. He replaces CCA program director Janet Bax who has held the president's position on an interim basis since fall 2014 following the departure of Elizabeth Dowdeswell who was appointed Ontario's lieutenant governor (R$, September 8/14)….
