Dr Bruce McNaughton is the recipient of Alberta's first AHFMR Polaris Award, a prestigious new award announced two years ago (R$, October 4/06). McNaughton — a world renowned Canadian neuroscientist who moved to the US 26 years ago — will receive $10 million over 10 years from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. It will be matched by the Univ of Lethbridge and the Informatics Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE), making it the richest research prize of its kind in Canada. McNaughton moves to the Univ of Lethbridge's Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience from the Arizona Research Laboratories Division of Neural Systems, Memory and Aging at the Univ of Arizona where he was director.
