Digital talent strategy targets skills shortage

A new strategy is recommending steps to ensure Canada can meet the digital sector's need for 36,000 more skilled workers by 2020. Released by the Information and Communications Technology Council, Digital Talent: Road to 2020 and Beyond says the jobs surge will be driven the adoption of by smart and connected technologies by all industrial sectors, including manufacturing, health and transportation. The strategy includes six key recommendations: mandatory computer science for K-12; better inclusion of women, Indigenous people and other minority groups; tax credits for small and mid-sized businesses; stimulating R&D investment; skills re-training; and strengthening digital literacy skills….
