Details unveiled for $2-billion infrastructure fund

The federal government has unveiled details of the $2-billion Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund (SIF), of which one third is reserved for community colleges in support of training initiatives. Announced in the March 22 Budget, the SIF will cover 50% of eligible costs, leveraging the remaining amount from non-federal partners for projects in three categories — improve the scale or quality of facilities for research and innovation, including commercialization; improve the scale or quality of facilities for specialized training at colleges focused on industry needs; and, improve the environmental sustainability of research and innovation-related infrastructure at post-secondary institutions and college training infrastructure. Institutions must submit their applications by May 9 and projects must be completed by April 30, 2018. Research and teaching hospitals, research parks, incubators and accelerators can also apply through the institution to which they are affiliated....
