David Emerson to lead federal review of aerospace and space programs & policies

Industry Canada has selected David Emerson to lead launched a review of the government's programs and policies for the aerospace and space sectors, supported by a three-person advisory council and a secretariat.

The review will result in a public, fiscally neutral report that will be released publicly this December. Its recommendations will be seek to answer questions such as: what is the comparative advantage of Canada's aerospace sector; what are the opportunities and changing conditions within the sectors; what can the sector do to take advantage of opportunities and challenges; how can Canada learn from international best practices; what impacts are existing policies and programs having; and, what modified or alternative policies and programs might government consider?

Emerson was a former Liberal minister of Industry before switching parties in 2006 shortly after the federal election to become minister of Foreign Affairs.

The review's advisory council is comprised of Sandra Pupatello, former Ontario minister of Economic Development and Trade and current director of business development and global markets for PricewaterhouseCoopers; Jim Quick, president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada; and, Dr Jacques Roy, an expert in supply chain management and professor in HEC Montreal's Department of Logistics and Operations Management.
