China joins ITER negotiations

The People’s Republic of China has joined negotiations surrounding the ITER international fusion energy project. China along with the US are the most recent entrants to the negotiations, which will decide where the multi-billion-dollar project will be situated. Canada is in the running against Spain, France, and Japan to host the project. The Canadian bid recently ran into difficulty due to its lack of federal financial support and Ottawa is now considering whether to provide monetary assistance. The most recent round of negotiations was held February 19 in St Petersburg Russia, where an assessment report on all four sites was tabled.
