China and NRC to collaborate on canola research

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences' Oil Crop Research Institute has signed an agreement with the National Research Council's Plant Biotechnology Institute to conduct joint genetic research on improving the production of canola. The Chinese Academy will contribute $300,000 for the first project under the agreement — the first time China has invested directly in Canadian agricultural research. The NRC is contributing $210,000 worth of facilities and analytical equipment. The first project will complete genomics work on canola to identify genes that affect yield and adaptation to various environmental stresses....
