CCA populates expert panel on private sector innovation

The Council of Canadian Academies has announced the membership of its Expert Panel on Private Sector Innovation in Canada. The federal government asked the CCA to conduct an assessment to help determine why private sector R&D spending in Canada is lower than other advanced nations. The expert panel will try to answer several related questions including:

* How should the innovation performance of Canadian firms be assessed?;

* How innovative are Canadian firms, and what do we know about their innovation performance at a national, regional and sector level?

* Why is business demand for innovation inputs weaker in Canada than in many other OECD countries? and,

* What are the contributing factors, and what is the relative importance of these contributing factors?
