Bill Buxton has been appointed senior researcher with Microsoft Research to work on projects with the organization’s six labs in North America, Europe, China and India. His first assignment begins in January with a four-month residency at Microsoft Research’s lab in Cambridge UK. Buxton is a globally recognized expert in human-computer interaction in the areas of design, film making and music. Between 1994 and 2002, he was chief scientist with Alias/Wavefront (now Alias Systems Corp) as well as SGI Inc when it purchased Alias in 1995. Since 2002, he was principal of his own design/consulting firm in Toronto as well as chief scientist at Toronto’s Bruce Mau Design Inc, a multidisciplinary communications firm.
