Arctic research infrastructure projects selected

The federal government has selected 14 projects for its $85-million Arctic Research Infrastructure Fund for upgrading or renovating existing research facilities. The five biggest projects account for $52.3 million of the funding, which were subject to review process after a February 20/09 call for proposals . The larger projects and the values of the project are: Aurora Research Institute ($11 million), Churchill Northern Studies Centre ($11 million), Centre d'études nordiques ($8.3 million), Nunavut Research Institute ($11 million) and Polar Continental Shelf Project ($11 million). A $2-million feasibility study to determine the best location for a future Arctic research station is now underway. Both initiatives were announced in the recent federal Budget (R$, February 9/09)….
