Nunavut Research Institute re-opens following upgrades

The Nunavut Research Institute (NRI) has officially opened following a $10.4-million overall to expand the facility and make it more energy efficient. The upgrade will allow the institute to expand its research in the areas of health, natural and social sciences and forge stronger linkages with industry and northern academic facilities such as Nunavut Arctic College. The NRI is one of several Arctic research facilities targeted for upgrades and overhauls with $85 million in funding announced in the 2009 Budget (R$, April 16/09). The NRI is based in Iqaluit with satellite stations in Arviat, Igloolik, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay….
