CD Howe says Canadian business investment lagging

Canadian aspirations to achieve significant productivity gains against its competitors are being hampered by under investment in equipment and plant infrastructure, according to a brief report from the CD Howe Institute. While Canadian business investment per worker has generally matched that of OECD nations since 1995, it has slipped recently to 95 cents vs $1 in the OECD. The gap is more pronounced in comparison with the G7 and US, when Canada's investment is 8 cents and 22 cents less per dollar respectively. The gap in Quebec and Ontario is even greater.
