UVic receives WD funding to develop unmanned air vehicles

The Univ of Victoria has received $671,500 from Western Economic Diversification to conduct R&D on unmanned air vehicles (UAV) at its new Centre for Aerospace Research. UVic researchers intend to produce a family of airframe prototypes from the ground up through conceptualization and design to manufacture. The prototypes can be customized for research and commercial purposes including search and rescue, firefighting, aerial mapping and crop monitoring. The UAV project has also received more than $1.1 million in cash and in-kind from industry and government organizations. New inventions and industrial patents will be made available for licensing to industry....
