TRLabs makes changes to grad support, programs

TRLabs, Edmonton, is combatting increasing international competition for engineering and computer science students by boosting the value of its scholarships by 50%. Scholarships begin at $12,000 for a graduate program's first year before doubling to $24,000 for years 2, 3 and 4 of a PhD program and year 2 of a Master's program. Top-up support of $6,000 to $9,000 is available for NSERC Fellowship recipients. In addition, TRLabs is consolidating its pooled research program into three themes: telecom, eHealth and eHome and introducing subscribed research activity allowing industry to direct research activities. A new industry-led Research Advisory Board and Inventor's Prize fund have also been created to drive industry relevance and celebrate technology with strong commercialization potential....
