Sushanta Mitra

Dr Sushanta Mitra has been appointed executive director of the Waterloo Institute of Nanotechnology (WIN), effective August 1^st. He replaces Dr Arthur Carty who served as its inaugural executive director since 2008. Mitra comes to WIN from York Univ where he was associate VP research and a professor of micro & nanotechnology for social innovation. While at York he was also chair of its mechanical engineering department and co-founder of the Canada-India Research Centre of Excellence. Prior to York, he was assistant VP research at the Univ of Alberta where he led a number of Canadian and global initiatives focused on coal bioconversion through the Nano-Bio-Energy Network and Global Integrated Water Management Network. Mitra holds a PhD in mechanical engineering at the Univ of Waterloo and an MSc in mechanical engineering from the Univ of Victoria.
