SFU receives research chair in pest management

An industrial research chair (IRC) in pest management has been established at Simon Fraser Univ (SFU) and will be held by Dr Gerhard Gries. The IRC is renewable and worth $2.5 million over five years. Funding was provided by a $1.2 million grant from Science and Engineering Research Canada (NSERC) and matched by several firms involved in pest management. Further contributions include $100K in in-kind industry support and $105K from SFU for equipment and lab renovations. Gries’ research bridges chemical and biological, focussing on the chemical and bioacoustic communications of insects and how synthetic attractants can be deployed to control them....
