Robert Hawkins has been appointed president and vice-chancellor of the Univ of Regina, replacing Dr David Barnard, who will leave the position August 31/05 after completing seven years of a 10-year mandate. Hawkins comes to Regina from the Nipissing Univ in North Bay ON. His areas of research expertise lie in constitutional, administrative and contract law, as well as negotiation and mediation. He is also an adjunct professor of law at the Univ of Western Ontario. Hawkins holds an Honours BA from the Univ of Manitoba (St John’s College), an MA from Oxford Univ, a Bachelor of Law from the Univ of Toronto, a Master of Law from Yale Univ and a Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies from the Univ of Paris….

Five new members have been appointed to Health Canada’s science advisory board, an 18-member board providing independent advice and expertise to the minister of Health. The new appointments and their areas of research expertise are: Dr Renaldo Battista, Univ of Montreal (health technology assessment), Dr Arminée Kazanjian, Univ of British Columbia (health services), Dr Andreas Laupacis, Univ of Toronto (clinical trials), Dr Renée Lyons, Dalhousie Univ (health promotion) and Dr Jacques Simard, Laval Univ (breast cancer). The advisory board provides advice on future directions of Health Canada’s scientific programs and activities and on emerging health sciences and trends....
