Plant genetics firm receives follow-on financing

Performance Plants Inc has secured an additional $4.8 million in financing to support its program for the development of genetically modified crop plants. The Kingston ON-based firm received the financing from a syndicate of investors including VentureLink Fund (Toronto), Dynex Capital Limited Partnership (Kingston), Saskatchewan Opportunities Corp and Queen’s Univ’s PARTEQ Innovations. The funds will help develop the company’s two most advanced technologies. Performance Plants received its first angel investment in 1996, completed an equity and licensing agreement with Dow AgroSciences Canada in 1998 and concluded a further investment round in 1999.
