Ontario bolsters S&T in college system

Three Ontario colleges have been designated Institutes of Technology and Advanced Learning (ITAL) as part of its skills and learning strategy. The new moniker will be added to Humber College, Conestoga College and Sheridan College. The ITAL designation will boost programming of applied degrees, place increased emphasis on industry and specialized sectoral support and increase involvement in applied research through partnerships. A fourth institution — Georgian College will create a specialized division called the Institute of University Partnerships and Advanced Studies to bring degree-level learning to the local community. The move follows a pilot program last year in which 18 colleges offered 34 applied degree programs. More colleges are expected to apply for the new designation....
