OMERS Ventures, the venture capital investment arm of OMERS, hired veteran investor Michael Yang as a managing partner. Yang will open a new office in Silicon Valley, where he will lead U.S. operations for the firm. Yang was a managing director at Comcast Ventures since 2008, where he focused on e-commerce and emerging technologies. He previously worked at Yahoo, Atlas Venture, Zaplet and AOL. Michelle Killoran, a principal at OMERS Ventures, will join Yang at the new office in the Bay Area. Yang’s team will concentrate on five main areas: healthcare, transportation, the future of work, retail innovation and new forms of media. OMERS, which manages $95 billion on behalf of municipal employees in Ontario, has also been opening offices abroad, such as in Singapore in 2017.
