Nortel Networks’ R&D spending rises in Q4-03

Nortel Networks Corp reports increased R&D spending for Q4 of FY03 but the annual total is not enough to equal its FY02 performance. In Q4/03, R&D expenses were US$523 million due to increased spending on wireless data R&D. That compares to $498 million for Q4/02 and $485 million for Q3/03. The Q4/03 results bring R&D spending for FY03 to $1.99 billion on revenue of $9.81 billion for an R&D-to-sales ratio of 20.3%. In FY02, Nortel spent $2.21 billion on R&D and posted revenue of $10.57 billion, for an R&D-to-sales ratio of 20.9%….
