John Roese has been appointed chief technology officer (CTO) of Nortel Networks Corp with responsibility for the company's overall R&D strategy and execution. Roese comes to Nortel from Broadcom Corp, Irvine CA, a communications semiconductor firm where he held the positions of VP and CTO for networking technologies. An authority on network convergence and emerging technologies, he will work closely with Nortel's chief strategy officer on market opportunities and strategic partnerships. Roese holds a BSc in electrical engineering from the Univ of New Hampshire and reports directly to president and CEO Mike Zafirovski. He assumes a position that has been vacant since the departure of Gary Kunis last year (R$, December 9/05)....
