Increased salmon research funding required

The Pacific Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (PFRCC) is calling on the federal and provincial governments to increase funding for innovative fisheries research related to salmon management. The PFRCC says budget reductions and funding restrictions have led to serious gaps and delays in translating scientific knowledge into new methods of conserving salmon stocks. Cutbacks have resulted in fisheries managers with only enough resources to cope with ongoing responsibilities instead of focusing on new methods and activities devoted to conservation….
