Dr Victoria Kaspi

Dr Victoria Kaspi has been awarded the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering — the first women to receive the medal since it was created in 1991. An astrophysicist, Kaspi is regarded as a leading expert on neutron stars and has had a major impact in the field of astrophysics. Her research into pulsars strengthened understanding of their relationship to supernovae and she helped discover the pulsar with the fastest known rotation rate. Kaspi is an associate professor with McGill Univ's physics department, holds a Tier I Canada Research Chair and is part of the Cosmology and Gravity program at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR).
