Dr Lorne Babiuk

Dr Lorne Babiuk has been appointed VP research at the Univ of Alberta, replacing Dr Gary Kachanoski who has held the position since 2001. Babiuk begins a five-year term on July 1. He is considered one of Canada's top flight researchers and research managers and is a major contributor to science and research policy at the national level. Babiuk is currently CEO and director of the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) at the Univ of Saskatchewan. He is a specialist in immunology, molecular virology, vaccinology, and viral pathogenesis with an emphasis on bovine respiratory and enteric viral infections. Babiuk holds the Canada Research Chair in vaccinology and biotechnology. Kachanoski will return to the university faculty after a leave of absence as a professor in the department of renewable resources….
