Dr Feridun Hamdullahpur

Dr Feridun Hamdullahpur has been appointed president of the Univ of Waterloo, replacing Dr David Johnston who was recently appointed Governor General of Canada. Hamdullahpur joined the university in 2009 as VP academic and provost and professor in the department of mechanical and mechatronics engineering. He has been acting president since Johnston was sworn in as governor general October 1. Prior to joining the Univ of Waterloo, Hamdullahpur was Carleton Univ's VP research and international relations (2000-2007), overseeing an increase in external research funding from $28 million to $101 million. Prior to that he held senior positions at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (which became DalTech-Dalhousie Univ), where he also earned a PhD in chemical engineering. Hamdullahpur received a BSc and MSc in mechanical engineering from the Technical Univ of Istanbul….
