Dr Brian Gray

Dr Brian Gray has been appointed chief scientist for Natural Resources Canada, replacing Geoff Munroe who retired at the end of 2013. Gray takes on the position while retaining his responsibilities as assistant DM of the department's Earth Sciences Sector. He will serve as champion for the department's science initiatives including its 23 signature projects ranging from green mining and clean energy to forestry, geo-hazards and public safety. Gray first entered government from the private sector in 2005 to become assistant DM for science and technology at Environment Canada. He has had considerable experience on advisory bodies and boards, serving as the Canadian focal point for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research, as well as co-chairing the R&D working group for Canada-U.S. Clean Energy Dialogue.
