Doug Hull has been appointed to a newly created position at CANARIE Inc, ending a long career with the public service. Hull becomes CANARIE’s senior director, public access/learning networks effective early July. He leaves Industry Canada where he is DG Information Highway Applications Branch. Hull recently appeared on an Ottawa CBC radio program and explained his decision to leave the public service. He cited new auditing and accountability requirements imposed on all departments in the wake of the scandal surrounding Human Resources Development Canada. The new regulations are being blamed for delays in implementing policy decisions, which is of serious concern in rapidly evolving areas like the information highway. Hull is the second high-profile defector from government to move to CANARIE, following Susan Baldwin who joined last year as senior director of operations....
