David Malone has been appointed rector of the United Nations University (UNU), effective March 1/13. Malone has been president of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) since 2008 and announced his intention to leave earlier this year. IDRC has been actively seeking his replacement and a selection to his successor is well advanced. His appointment to UNU was made by UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon last week. Prior to joining IDRC, Malone served as Canada's high commissioner to India and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal. Previously he was assistant DM (global affairs) at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, president, International Peace Academy, New York and Canadian ambassador to the United Nations. He is an adjunct professor at the New York Univ School of Law and is a senior fellow of Massey College at the Univ of Toronto ….
