CATA slams Competition Bureau's IP enforcement guidelines

The Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) is warning that the Competition Bureau's proposed Intellectual Property Enforcement Guidelines (IPEG) will negatively impact on Canada's potential for growth. In letters to Commissioner of Competition Conrad Finckenstein and Industry Canada minister John Manley, CATA president John Reid argues that overly restrictive descriptions of intellectual property (IP) statutes and exclusive licenses will only penalize success for R&D intensive firms. CATA notes that Parliament has recognized the special nature of IP as distinct from physical property, but contends that the Competition Bureau is subverting the intent of the legislation....
