Canadian genomics researchers win $56M in funding from government and businesses

Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, announced $22.7 million for genomics researchers through three funding competitions conducted by Genome Canada. Provincial governments, businesses and research partners are adding $33.4 million to the pot, bringing the total to $56 million. The 37 projects receiving funding span multiple sectors, including health, agriculture, natural resources and the environment. This round of funding brings the total government investment in genomics research through Genome Canada to $1.5 billion since 2000. The global genomics market could reach US$27.6 billion in the next six years, according to some estimates.
