The inaugural RE$EARCH MONEY John de la Mothe Award for Contributions to Science Policy awarded to Fred Gault
Dr. Fred Gault
Research Money Inc. is pleased to present the inaugural John de la Mothe Award for Contributions to Science Policy,
to Dr. Fred Gault, former head, Statistics Canada's Science, Innovation and Electronic Information Division.
Dr. Gault is a pioneer in the development of measures of science and technology performance. For over a decade he led
a team at Statistics Canada that developed the ideas and methods that are widely used to measure Canada's innovation
performance. The statistical methods and data that were developed and refined under Dr. Gault's leadership form the
cornerstone of federal and provincial science and innovation strategies and policies. Dr. Gault also helped position
Canada as a leader in international science statistics.
The John de la Mothe award honours one of Canada's leading thinkers on science and technology policy. A Canada Research
Chair at the University of Ottawa, Dr. de la Mothe passed away in 2007 following a too-brief but brilliant career.
