NSERC announces award winners for natural science and engineering excellence

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) announced its annual awards at a gala event at the Governor General’s residence on February 17th in Ottawa. The evening’s top prize, the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, went to Dr Axel Becke, a chemistry professor at Dalhousie University.

Montreal named secretariat for Future Earth research platform for global sustainability

Montreal has succeeded in its bid to become the global secretariat of Future Earth, a distributed research program dedicated to scientifically solving real-world problems of global sustainability. Spearheaded by Montreal International and Dr Remi Quirion, Quebec’s chief scientist, Future Earth is comprised of five hubs — Montreal, Paris, Tokyo, Stockholm and Boulder CO.
