Seneca and KUKA Canada are teaming up to provide Seneca students with state-of-the-art robotic equipment and the opportunity to enhance their manufacturing skills. Seneca is a polytechnic college with campuses in Toronto, York Region and Peterborough. The KUKA Group, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, is a global automation corporation with sales of about €3.5 billion (C$5.24 billion). Under an MOU announced by David Agnew, Seneca’s president, and Ed Manera, KUKA Canada’s vice-president of sales, the partners will jointly develop strategic initiatives focused on technology innovation and work on skills development through curriculum on Industry 4.0 automation. Also known as the "fourth industrial revolution," Industry 4.0 includes cyber-physical systems and the Internet of Things, along with cloud and cognitive computing. The partnership will include a modern KUKA robotics laboratory in Seneca’s new $85-million Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship, opening in January 2019, at the Newnham Campus.
