NSERC makes strategic projects grants worth $53.5M

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council has awarded $53.5 million over three years to 112 research projects under its Strategic Projects Grants and New Media Initiative programs. The projects see university researchers partner with private sector and not-for-profit organizations in areas aligned with the federal S&T Strategy that hold the potential for economic and social benefits. The largest number of grants were made in the communications and information category (22), followed by manufacturing (21), energy (20), food and bioproducts (13), environment (11), safety and security 11), biomedical technologies (10) and new media (3). The average grant size is $450,000. The awards include six collaborative projects with France through a recent memorandum of understanding with l'Agence nationale de la recherche....
