NSERC announces Discovery Grants awards

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) has announced $413 million in funding in grants, scholarships and fellowships including its core Discovery Grants program. A total of 2,026 researchers received Discovery Grants awards worth $323.9 million, down $1.8 million from 2012. The awards include 125 Discovery Accelerator Supplements ($15 million), Canada Graduate Scholarships (261 doctoral level/$25.5 million and 900 Master's level/$14 million), Postgraduate Scholarships (450 Doctoral level/$26.1 million and 36 Master's level/$0.6 million), and 110 Postdoctoral Fellowships ($8.8 million). Early stage researchers achieved a 60% success rate with an average grant size of $27,659. Established researchers renewing their grant scored a 76% success rate and average grant size of $36,062. Only 36% of established researchers not holding a grant were successful with an average grant size of $27,597....
