GrowthWorks invests $9.5 million in high-tech firms

GrowthWorks Canadian Fund is investing $9.5 million in three high-technology firms. The latest investments are in: Advanced Glazings Ltd ($2.5 million), Sydney NS, a manufacturer of insulated glass units; SaskAlta Base Oils Corp ($2 million), Calgary, which recovers and refines hydrocarbon resources from feedstock; and, Viron Therapeutics Inc, London ON ($5 million), an early stage firm seeking to commercialize anti-inflammatory therapeutics. GrowthWorks recently expanded its holdings by merging GrowthWorks Opportunity Fund, Canadian Science and Technology Growth Fund and Capital Alliance Ventures (R$, ). Imperial Oil donates $3 million for S&T skills training

Imperial Oil has donated $3 million to several educational institutions to support S&T skills training through its Building Futures program. The funding is being provided to: McGill Univ ($800,000) to create an Institute of Winners in Wonderment program; York Univ ($500,000) for its Science Outreach program; Junior Achievement ($1 million) to fund program delivery and development; YMCA Calgary ($250,000) for its Achievement program; Let's Talk Science ($200,000) for program enhancement; The Canadian Petroleum Interpretive Centre ($100,000) to support educational programs; and, Imperial Oil Aboriginal Scholarships Program to support post-secondary studies of four students....
