Creative Destruction Lab selects award winners

The Univ of Waterloo is one of three winners of the inaugural awards presented by the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) at the Univ of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. U of W won CDL's Labour Award for its engineering and co-op program for its impact on Canadian competitiveness through the development and promotion of human capital in science, technology and commerce. The CDL's Ideas Award was made to the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research for its advancement of new ideas in the area of S&T and support for curiosity-driven research. The Capital Award was made to Haig Farris, a pioneer of the Canadian venture capital industry, for his visionary application of capital in S&T and commerce. Farris founded the Brown, Farris & Jefferson Ltd VC firm in 1968 and Ventures West in 1973. The awards were made December 15th at a CDL conference on artificial intelligence....
