CCA releases report on business and energy prices

The Council of Canadian Academies has released an expert panel report that explores the risks and opportunities posed by higher energy prices. The report — requested by Industry Canada — provides an overview of how businesses have adapted to rising and increasingly volatile energy prices and examines ways in which they can enhance their resilience. Chaired by Dr Fred Gorbet, a senior fellow at the CD Howe Institute, the panel found that higher energy prices are unlikely to have a strong impact on the competitiveness of Canadian firms, although there's no guarantee that firm resilience will ensure successful adaptation. The report also states that exposure to energy prices and company strategies for adaptation depend on whether firms are energy intensive, capital-intensive or product energy-intensive products....
