Canadian institutions rank well in postdoc survey

Four Canadian institutions ranked in the top 10 non-US institutions as the best place to work for post doctoral students in the life sciences, according to a recent survey by The Scientist. Institutions that made the top 10 are: Dalhousie Univ (#4), Mount Sinai Hospital (#6), Univ of Calgary (#38) and Univ of Alberta (#10). The results are based on responses of more than 3,500 post docs from Canada, the US and Western Europe who identified themselves as “nontenured life scientists working in academia or other non-commercial research organizations”. The top 3 choices among respondents are: Umea Plant Science Centre (Umea, Sweden), Uppsala Univ (Uppsala, Sweden) and Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam). The rankings were based on a series of 10 factors, with the highest priority placed on training and experience for a future career....
